French Language

How prevalent is the French language in Quebec?
sorry if this is a dumb question. for example if you were to walk into a store, would the employee greet you in French or English?
I know French is their official language and English isn’t even considered and official language so I’m guessing French is basically all they Speak…but I was just wondering. I like Canada and I love the French language so I was thinking of possibly moving to Quebec when I get older.
Wow Katzy, I’m sorry you had a bad experience, and btw water is not charged, we pay for water heating with gas if the apartment building is gas heated. Though my apartment is gas heated and it’s included in my rent, I pay 40$ every 2 months for electricity. It’s cheap here because we have water turbines in our rivers.
If you go to Montreal you will be greated “Hi/Bonjour” which is bilingual. We love tourists, and immigrants.
Our country officially has two Languages, and there are a lot of good reasons to move here. We are the only province with government sponsored day care, 7$ a day cost to the parent, we have free health care, we only pay 10$ every 4 years for a card with a picture on it. We pay the lowest taxes.
We may not have the best transit system, built first in the country back in the 60s and 70s, and our roads are shit, but there are a lot of advantages to living here. I moved to Vancouver for 6 months, and found people cold, clicky, like in Toronto. Here in Montreal, Qc, you can sit down in any pub and make a friend.
At least give it a try. The housing costs are also the cheapest for a Metropolitan Area. I know a place that rents rooms downtown next to the Concordia University, for only 350 a month. Try to find that in TO or Van City.
Also, we have tons of American companies who hire English Speaking employees. I worked for American Express, and didn’t even have to speak french for my interview.
