I Want To Learn French

If you want to be a director, would you Learn French as a Second Language?
I am currently in a french program, but I’m not fluent. I can read and write in french pretty fluently but I’m not that good in speaking. I want to be a Director and when I study my Arts, they’re in french which is harder than learning it in English. Should i just continue French or should I drop out? Is there an advantage, for Directors, if you know French? (You have a better chance of being chosen for the job?)
Help please.
A Director for Movies.
Seeing as the French (arguably) created film, I’d say that it could be extremely beneficial to continue studying French. Of course, it really depends on what kind of movies you want to create. I would suggest watching French films, and if it seems like a style that you’d be interested in replicating, then it’s probably important to your career to Speak French. Furthermore, you have the advantage of a wider range of actors if you can speak French. Objectively speaking, however, it probably isn’t imperative for you to speak French if you want to be a director; there are plenty of successful directors who only speak their mother tongue.
Speaking French can be intimidating, but language is your key to the world. Directing aside, everyone really should Learn A second language. If you want to work on speaking French, I would suggest finding a buddy to practice with or joining an Online Language exchange community, such as language-exchanges.org. You won’t ever be able to speak French well if you don’t practice. Another benefit of watching French movies is that you benefit from improving your ear–understanding is often the most difficult part of learning a new language, particularly French with all it’s liaisons and silent letters. I don’t know if you enjoy traveling, but one of the coolest things is being able to communicate with people when you’re in a foreign country. You have the opportunity to meet people who otherwise would have been cut off from you.
In summary: Is there an advantage to speaking French? Definitely. It won’t make or break you, but it certainly looks impressive and can benefit you in more ways than you know.
